Lex Buchanan

Lex Buchanan paints scenes of fleeting moments captured in passage. Architectural spaces are presented as nostalgic experiences of the everyday, transformed into visual puzzles that challenge and disorient the viewer. Through ethereal effects, architectural forms, and painterly gestures Buchanan complicates notions of landscape and the urban condition, challenging viewers in the act of deciphering new scenarios which manifest with the ephemera of our own experience.

Buchanan is an artist, designer, curator and alumnus of the Ontario College of Art and Design where he graduated with honors and is the recipient of the Bluma Appel award and A.V. Isacc’s scholarship. After a year of post-graduate studies in Florence, Italy Lex obtained an Advanced Certificate of Visual Studies from OCAD University. His work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions both locally and internationally. He currently lives and works in Toronto where he continues to exhibit, curate and promote other local artists. Buchanan also manages a studio collective, Studio 6, and is a founding member and co-director of Project Gallery Toronto.
