Upcoming Canada Exhibitions

There are a number of exciting art exhibitions set to begin in the near future. Canada in particular has several events that are worth checking out. It is a good idea to take note of when and where these will take place in order to avoid missing them.

Biennial of Contemporary Art

This is set to take place during the fall, at the Art Gallery of Alberta. The biennial exhibition has been going on since 1996. It remains one of the best places to check out famous local artists. The scope of this exhibition is expanding in 2020. The AGA has teamed up with the Remai Modern, with indigenous art taking center stage.

The Otolith Group

This revered collective of artists will be putting on a traveling exhibition from late September to mid November. It will be called “Xenogenesis”, a reference to Octavia Butler’s science fiction. 3D scanned animations will be big part of the piece. “Xenogenesis” is one of the most anticipated events within the art world this year (2020). It should not be missed.

Vancouver Triennial

The Vancouver Triennial will begin during the fall. The first version of this regional survey show started in 2016. It is a chance for the public to see emerging talents from Vancouver. More than 40 artists are contributing to it. This includes Jeneen Frei Njootli, Arvo Leo, Brent Wadden and Derya Akay. There is a huge buzz around the Triennial, not just locally but from art fans across the country.

Winnipeg Art Gallery

50 artists are set to be featured at the inaugural exhibition of the recently developed Winnipeg Art Gallery. Around half of the work exhibited will likely be special commissions. All four corners of the Inuit Nunangat region are getting represented. The gallery itself includes 40,000 feet and three stories of space.
